My TV Experience
On the 29th of March, Mom was scrolling through Facebook and came across a competition on the RTE Today page.
It said-
*****LAST CHANCE TO ENTER OUR LAMB WATCH VIDEO & PICTURE COMPETITION*****
There were to be four main prizes and four runner-up prizes!
Since we got our lambs we have taken lots of photos and videos, so we made one big video of all our pictures and videos.
I picked the song to go in the background, which is “Paul Kelly Lambing Time”.
Our video tells the story from when we got our first lambs until we sent in that video.
On Wednesday the 30th of March, Mom got a call from RTE Today to see if we would go on with Maura and Daithí to do a quiz.
We agreed to and Mom had many phone calls to set up our Skype call which was pre-recorded on April 1st.
They sent us on pictures of seven different sheep types the night before, but we didn’t know what they were going to ask…..
We were all set up to do the Skype call and decided to bring Bailey on the TV too. On TV it looked like all was under control, but Bailey had jumped up on the table and had made all the ‘behind the scenes’ people laugh!
Bailey also ate a whole box of grass we had picked for her and Mom had to run and get more to keep her quiet.
The RTE team were super nice to talk to and told us how the show would run and when we would be on.
We had to identify types of sheep and got all of our answers correct! Our video came in fourth place and we won a lovely glass trophy, a Red Mills voucher and a Farmers Journal goodie bag. I think Bailey was happy with her prize!
- We were extremely pleased to have a new pupil enrol immediately after the Easter holidays. Emily Egan joined the Junior Infant cohort and is a delightful addition to the class.
- We welcomed past pupil Miss Shauna Golden to the school to complete her placement as part of Third Year college requirements. Shauna is attending St. Patrick’s, Drumcondra which is a college of Dublin City University. It was a pleasure to have her with us for placement, during which time she taught the senior pupils in Fifth and Sixth Classes. Children were engaged and interested in all of the content which Shauna taught, and we wish her every success as she enters her final year.
- Congratulations to Fifth Class pupil, Mia Manning-Aurich on winning a prize in the Mayo County Council, Road Safety Art Competition. Mia was presented with a cycling helmet, which was delivered to the school by Road Safety Officer, Mr Noel Gibbons. In addition, her entry was included in this year’s Road Safety calendar. Well done to Mia on her artistic endeavours!
- Mayo County Council also ran a Road Safety campaign in conjunction with Mayo Day, entitled “My Red and Green Thumb # Mayo Day”. The aim of the campaign was to highlight the dangers associated with using a phone while on the road or street. To support this initiative we had a ‘Mayo Day’ at school which included the wearing of Mayo jerseys or green and red clothing. We discussed how being distracted by the use of a phone while walking or driving can have catastrophic consequences. Pupils also reflected on the major attractions and features of our beautiful county.
- For the month of April, the Aistear theme in Ms. Waldron’s class was Home Sweet Home. The children have been very busy keeping their house tidy during role play, making dinners, preparing for birthday parties and getting ready for their school day. In ‘Construction’ the children used cardboard boxes and various materials to design their houses; they even added partitions for different rooms and made furniture to decorate their homes. Also in the construction station, children drew up plans for their own houses. They followed these plans to build homes using blocks and lego. In “Messy Play” the children used playdough to make houses, furniture and items found in a house. The biggest treat of all in the junior room was the beautiful dollhouse that Gemma in Sixth Class loaned for use in the “Small World” station! The children absolutely loved playing house and exploring the different rooms and areas of the dollhouse. Go raibh míle maith agat Gemma!
- There were three lotto winners this month- Aoibhe Duffy, Cillian Boyle and Mrs Meehan.
- Frása na Míosa- Is maith an t-anlann an t-ocras!
