Well done to quiz team members Liam Frain, Matthew Boylan, Oisín Duffy and Liam Boyle who competed at County Level of The Library Services Quiz in Roscommon and put in a very creditable performance.

The Christmas Concert staged in Kilmovee Community Centre was a huge success with children displaying their talents through drama, music and song. The pupils put a lot of work into their preparations for the big night, resulting in a very polished performance. Infants and First Class enacted a beautiful play entitled, ‘The Sleepy Shepherd,’ under the direction of Ms. Egan. Second, Third and Fourth Classes performed in the comical ‘Elves on Strike’, which was produced by Mrs. Meehan, while Fifth and Sixth Classes entertained the audience with their hilarious ‘The Christmas X Factor’ under the guidance of Mrs. Warde. The School Band also gave a rendition of familiar and much-loved tunes which included Aoibhínn Duffy singing a delightful version of ‘The Green Fields of France’. Pupils were delighted to see former Principal Mrs. Denise Deery among the audience members along with Fr. Vincent Sherlock, Chairperson of The Board of Management. The students also had lots of fun in the lead-up to the concert and everybody was hugely proud of their accomplishments on stage.

Noah Duffy in Senior Infants was a prize-winner in the colouring competition organised by Carracastle Foróige Club. Well done Noah on very careful and decorative art-work!

We said fare well to our Bus-Driver Michael Battle, as he retired on the day we received our Christmas Holidays. Michael has endeared himself to pupils, parents and staff due to his patience, good-humour and obliging manner. He showed concern for the safety of each child and was always punctual and reliable. His approachability and affable personality is truly appreciated by the Whole School Community. We wish Michael a happy and healthy retirement and thank him sincerely for his service to the school.

The Aistear Theme in Miss Egan’s Classroom was Christmas, with a focus on toys. The children constructed Santa’s workshop with building blocks and modelled wonderful toys out of play-doh for Santa’s sack. Pupils wrote shopping lists, designed stamps and posted their lists in the classroom post-box. In art they made reindeer masks and showed their acting skills in a role-play about trouble in Santa’s workshop! Children really enjoyed all of the Aistear activities.
