  • Mrs Shirley Hunt, grandmother of Amy and Sean Hunt demonstrated the ancient art of making St Brigid’s crosses in the senior classroom to celebrate St. Brigid’s Day.
  • Two teams from the school took part in the Annual Ballaghaderreen Credit Union Quiz, one in the Under Thirteen category and one in the Under Eleven category. On the Under Thirteen team were Matthew Boylan, Oisín Duffy, Aoibhínn Duffy and Liam Frain while on the Under Eleven Team were, Robbie Dodd, Declan Duffy, Oran Frain and Ewan Duffy. The Under Eleven team finished in first place and qualified to compete in the next round of the competition in Westport.
  • The children of Second Class, along with the Second Class pupils of Tavrane and Kilkelly National Schools had their Enrolment Mass in Glann Church for First Holy Communion.
  • Past pupil Miss Shauna Golden began her college placement in the Infant classroom.
  • Mike Raleigh began hurling coaching with the boys in Fourth Class and upwards.
  • Two teams from the school took part in the local area Cumann na mBunscol Sports Quiz. Claiming third prize on the night were Matthew Duffy, Michael Regan, Oisín Duffy and Peter Horan. This qualified the school to compete at the County Quiz Final in Castlebar.
  • Parent-Teacher meetings were held and were very well attended.  
  • Craig Hansbury from the Ballyhaunis Rugby Club began rugby skills with pupils in Third Class and upwards.
  • A presentation was given by Transition Year students from St. Joseph’s Community College in Charlestown, to Fifth and Sixth Class pupils on the importance of Internet Safety.
  • Pupils in Fifth and Sixth Classes in Kilmovee, Tavrane and Kilkelly National Schools travelled to the Fr. Patrick Peyton Memorial Centre, Attymass for a Confirmation Retreat. The retreat was led by Fr. Steve Gibson who, with his co-presenter Esther, had prepared a diverse range of activities designed to enlighten and inspire the children about the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. These tasks included a treasure hunt and the creation of display boards highlighting the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Fr. Vincent Sherlock joined the group during the day. Pupils and staff enjoyed the day and left feeling uplifted and renewed.
  • The Aistear theme in Miss Egan’s classroom was; The Restaurant. In the construction area pupils created new restaurants; fast-food, Chinese and Italian. Play-doh was used to make food for the restaurant-burgers, fish and ice-cream! Pupils and Teacher collaborated to make menus and shopping lists. In Small World learners tried to get to the restaurant on time, but first had to overcome fires and fights on the street! What an eventful town! Children engaged in role-play at the restaurant. They also made ‘rice ice’ from rice, food-colouring and vinegar. That was fun and messy! In Art new outfits were designed for restaurant staff and food jewellery was also created. Yum, yum!!
