- The Aistear theme in Mrs Warde’s classroom was; The Bakery. Children experienced vocabulary specific to baking, e.g. knead, measure, roll, mixture, ingredients etc. They designed and “made” a variety of baked items using play-doh, explored how bread rises and in the Socio-Dramatic area, pupils acted out various scenarios including placing an order for a birthday cake. Children made rice-krispie buns and rocky road which included reading a recipe and mixing ingredients. Local baker Attracta Duffy from Hillcrest Bakery visited the classroom and involved the children in icing a cake and making an Easter sponge cake. The children really enjoyed Attracta’s visit and both Staff and pupils are very grateful for her practical demonstration.
