- The Aistear Theme in Mrs. Warde’s Classroom was; The Doctor. In the Socio- Dramatic corner the ‘receptionist’ interviewed each ‘patient’, eliciting relevant details such as name, address, symptoms etc. Children engaged in play using stethoscopes, thermometers, syringes and blood-pressure cuffs. In the Creative Area pupils learned the names of various organs in the body through the game of ‘Operation’ and made skeletons from cotton buds, black paper, glue and scissors. They also ‘designed’ a hospital ward and used figures from “Small World” as patients. First Class compiled mini-booklets entitled “What’s in my bag?” Each page had a picture and a sentence describing items found in a doctor’s bag. Pupils also heard a range of songs, rhymes and stories related to The Doctor. Children reported that this was one of the most enjoyable Aistear themes ever!
