School Newsletter – October 2016

  • Fred the Magician came to the school and delighted the children with his unique blend of magic and music.

 

  • The Photographer visited the school.

 

  • The older boys and girls participated in the Mini-Sevens competition, with the boys winning the Area Final.

 

  • The Halloween Sale of work was thoroughly enjoyed by the children and raised a total of €380. This money was spent on Christmas Annuals, buses and sports equipment.

 

  • Pupils participated in the Writing Competition organised by The Kenny/Naughton Committee in Aghamore. This year children were invited to write a short story or poem on My Favourite Event in the Olympics. Winners in the poetry section were Ewan Duffy, Gemma Rush, Aoibhín Boyle and Sean O’Dowd while successful in the short story section were,  Emma Shiel, Eoin Cafferky-Boylan, Caoimhe Duffy and David McCann.

 

  • The pupils also took part in a competition run in conjunction with the launch of the Kilkelly-Kilmovee In the colouring competition for children aged 5-7 years, Aoibhe Duffy claimed second prize while Caitlin Duffy won first prize in the 8-11 years section. In addition Amy Sharkey was awarded third prize in the writing competition for 11-13 year olds.

 

  • The Aistear theme in Mrs Warde’s classroom was; Autumn and Halloween. Children were provided with an opportunity to dress up in Halloween costumes and to prepare an “autumn feast” using conkers, leaves and pine cones. They learned Halloween poems and constructed a “spooky castle”. Pupils also had a fruit and vegetable “tasting party” and First Class composed acrostic poems and wrote ingredients for a spell!
