  • The Aistear theme in Mrs Warde’s classroom was Transport. Children discussed their experiences of different types of travel, vehicles that help us and the best way of travelling to various places. They role-played asking for directions, buying travel tickets and dressed up as pilots and drivers. At the Art Station, pupils used shape pictures to invent vehicles and experimented with designs produced by pressing wheels of various sizes and textures onto a paint pad and then ‘driving’ them on sheets of paper. Children listened to a range of transport themed stories, poems and songs. They also listened to and recited the Safe Cross Code and talked about the benefits of walking and cycling. Bus Driver, Michael Roddy visited the classroom and reiterated the importance of always wearing a seat belt when travelling in a car or bus.
